12 Yr Old in San Diego Loses Battle with MRSA

February 6th, 2007 · 1 Comment

carlos-don-mrsaI am so sad to report that 12 yr old Carlos Don lost his battle with MRSA septicemia in the early hours of Sunday morning. My heart breaks for his family.

Carlos’s family said two weeks ago, he was at Camp Cuyamaca with 200 other Ramona sixth-graders when he came home very sick. Officials from the district said that Carlos’ illness is an isolated case and is not related to other students’ cold and flu symptoms.

Health officials said they believe Carlos may have had the infection before going to camp and that they don’t think he spread the illness to anyone else.

The Don family said Carlos was a very healthy, athletic, and popular sixth-grader at Hanson Elementary School.

The family expressed their gratitude for the community’s support and blood donations and said they will celebrate Carlos’ life Sunday evening by watching the Super Bowl because he was a huge Payton Manning fan. [Source]

Pop Warner has a memorial set up through Washington Mutual bank if you are interested. And keep the family in your prayers - this is such a horrible and shocking thing to go through. :(
