Another look at resistant organisms

Another interesting blog item from Satyaviati at The Road To Braj is Strewn With Thorns, raising some very good points, as well as some controversial ones:

“I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be concerned. I’m saying maybe that they ought to be MORE concerned about the things they’ve been told for years: wash your hands, keep open wounds covered. Don’t share personal items. You can, and should, practice a modified version of universal precautions all the time, regardless of MRSA, VRE, C. dif, or any other bug the media wants to toss out as the newest "Superbug Killer." Wash your hands! Make your kids wash their hands. There are any number of cheap alcohol-based instant sanitizers in your local grocery store. Start using them. Is it too easy? Maybe so. This one step-washing your hands-can and will do more to prevent you getting ANY infection than anything else you can do.”
