As you may or may not know, MRSA in salons holds an extra sensitive place in me, as I have been a nail tech for more than 20 years now. Rather than totally repeat myself, which I love to do on this subject, I will just tell you what WFAA TV in Dallas wants you to be reminded of, which is:
- MRSA can live in the plumbing of improperly disinfected whirlpool tubs.
- MRSA is frequently misdiagnosed as an insect or spider bite.
- Some doctors are not properly aware of the emerging threat of MRSA.
Let me say again, in addition to the points above - the whirlpool tubs are almost impossible to get thoroughly disinfected (we are talking the need for the plumbing to be disinfected) in a salon setting, and my advice is to not use them. Ever. Almost everyone I talk to with MRSA had their problem initially diagnosed as a spider bite. And, it is so very important, if the treatment you are receiving does not seem to be working, or your doctor does not seem to be listening to you, that you go seek another opinion. Second, third and even fourth opinions are not uncommon when reaching an MRSA diagnosis.

Um…yes you should. At a minimum, don’t go to a salon that is using plumbed footbaths, Glo, trust me on this one.
