Four year old Caleb Noblitt survived an MRSA infection in his pelvis and spine, and is part of a video on channel 4 in Denver - looking just as vibrant as a little child should. Bless his heart, I can only imagine what his family has gone through!

I’ve gotten MRSA almost a year ago myself. It got inside of my body and attacked my respitory system collapsing my right lung. I got a few surguries and was attatched to draining tubes for about a month or so in the hospitol. It wasn’t a very good expirience.
But, I am now 17 and I’m doing absolutely wonderfully! Sometimes my chest feels a little tight in the mornings but other than that, I’ve had no problems!
Your son.
He is very lucky to be alive.
I couldn’t be more happy for you.

I have had MRSA for about 3 1/2 years. I had two pretty terrible go rounds with it, one requiring surgery before the boils went so deep that I would lose my arm. It hurts immensely, and it’s an aweful thing to get because you don’t know how long it will take until they find an antibiotic that will work right for you… hopefully before the infection and its affects are devistating. It almost seems like “remission” in between bouts… but every pimple, blister or cut worries me now. And if it starts looking like it’s infected, I go to the doctor right away. I’ll always be a carrier. And just because I’m contageous, doesn’t mean anyone will every get sick from me. My husband is probably a carrier thanks to me, but has never been sick. Of course if he ever gets an infection, I’ll be taking him in right away too…..Good luck to all those out there suffering….

God bless Caleb and his family and I pray this journey won’t be a long one and that someone finds a cure. and bless everyone else out there who are carriers and their families. I am looking mrsa a lot ( that is how I came across here ) since last holidays when I found out I have a few family member that are carriers. and now it seems to be spreading massively. I do worry for my children and other family members. But I worry more for those who are already infected. I wish you all the best of luck and a cure soon!
God Bless!!!!!!!

i ALSO HAVE MRSA HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE OVER SOON. I HAVE 11 MORE DAYS ON MY ANTIBIOTIC. i HAD IT IN MY BLOOD AND SPINE AND LUNGS. i WAS MISDIGNOSTIC . AND ALMOST DIED.
Brittany // Nov 4, 2007 at 3:51 pm
I was misdiagnosed for almost 2 years. I actually had MRSA and they told me it was just a simple staph infection and sent me on my way. In February I was finally diagnosed correctly and I was banned from school for about a week. It was too late though by the time they got me on my medicine MRSA had been in my system for 2 years and by getting on the medicine it sent it into my bloodstream and I wound up in ICU for a week and when I was in there they diagnosed me with MONO as well. I managed to give it to two teammates of mine before we got it under control. I’ll pray for your son and I hope he never has to go through it again.

HELP ME PLEASE my school just got special sanitizer espielly for mrsa. bless everyone that is dealling with it
Nicole // Nov 14, 2007 at 10:07 am
MRSA is not airborne. If you read and listen to the reports, that is the one way you will not get it. You can only get MRSA if you come in contact with the wound of the patient. I’ve had MRSA a few times and am battling it again as we speak. The nurse at the hospital last night assured me that I cannot spread it unless someone touches my wound. If you do have MRSA, get it treated immediately and you will be fine. Good luck!

We think that my nephew may have MRSA. My dad is taking him to the doctor again as I type. He was taken to the doctor yesterday and they said if he wasn’t better this morning, they were going to put him in the hospital. He has a small spot that came up on his leg Thursday night and they drew a circle around it. they gave him 2 shots and antibiotics, but I don’t know if it worked. I pray that MRSA is not what he has right now. He is only 1 year old. Please pray for him. God Bless everyone here who has gone through this.

i was told that i may have mrsa and i am really scared. my four month old son may have it too. he has a sore in his scalp and has had iot for a while now. i was told that it could come from hospitals . i wonder if that is where we caught it if we do have it. if not, i thought his area in his scalp was cradle cap and i would scratch it with my nails. that could be a source of infection. god bless all of you. im praying for everone.

I have been reading all of these stories. My grandson has been diagnosed with mrsa. It was about 7 months ago. He has had several sores come up. We cannot get any satisfaction from the doctors. They act like it is not a big deal. I am so worrried about him. He is only 2 years old. He now has a sore on his tail bone at the top of his bottom. His dad is also getting sores too but they say his is strep. Has anyone delt with this kind of situation? Please help!

Hi everyone! and good luck to you all, I have had MRSA for at least the past four weeks, it began as a small boil that grew overnight and was extremely painful, I have had in total four boils in four weeks, I have been told different things by different doctors, do you ever get rid of this??? thanks to a co worker who didn’t share that he had it until it was to late, be sure to inform people, don’t be embarrassed this is not your fault. Wash wash wash.

Help! I need to completely understand this…My husband has just been diagnosed with MRSA and I have six kids to watch out for, is it airborn? The Rn told my husband it is not contagious, the problem is I have read it is, can someone please clarify this for me? Im so worried for our children!
Angelica // Mar 7, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Hi Chistina! This NOT airborn. But keep your husband’s clothes, towels, etc…away from your kids and make’em wash theirs hands all the time, and most important do not let them touch any wound.Take care yourself too. Good Luck!
I’m praying for all of you guys!!!
Angelica // Mar 7, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Keep personal items personal. Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, sheets, razors, clothing and athletic equipment. MRSA spreads on contaminated objects as well as through direct contact.
Keep wounds covered. Keep cuts and abrasions clean and covered with sterile, dry bandages until they heal. The pus from infected sores often contains MRSA, and keeping wounds covered will help keep the bacteria from spreading.
Sanitize linens. If you have a cut or sore, wash towels and bed linens in hot water with added bleach and dry them in a hot dryer. Wash gym and athletic clothes after each wearing.
Wash your hands. In or out of the hospital, careful hand washing remains your best defense against germs. Scrub hands briskly for at least 15 seconds, then dry them with a disposable towel and use another towel to turn off the faucet. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer containing at least 62 percent alcohol for times when you don’t have access to soap and water.
Get tested. If you have a skin infection that requires treatment, ask your doctor to test for MRSA. Many doctors prescribe drugs that aren’t effective against antibiotic-resistant staph, which delays treatment and creates more resistant germs. If you’re having surgery, ask to be tested for MRSA one week before you enter the hospital.

I am a nurse and can I just say, MRSA is not a condition you ‘get’. It stands for methicillin resistant staph-aureus, Staph aureus is something most of us have on our skin anyway, and MRSA just means that it is not killed by methicillin, an antibiotic which is used to treat infections. It is only a problem if it gets somewhere it shouldnt be, i.e an open wound, which is no different to the staph aureus which is not resistant to antibiotics; It doesn’t give you sores, it is not airborne, you will only get a problem with it if you have a wound or opening where it can get it to the body, which can then cause infection, just the same as any bug. There are loads of people who are carriers, the same as there are loads of people who are carriers of normal staph aureus. You can have an underlying infection, which can be exacerbated by an infection with staph aureus, be it methicillin resistant or not, and if untreated it can cause a blood infection the same as any infection if left to spread. I get so mad when people say they had MRSA and it did this that and the other… they will have had an infection and the bug wil have just been resistant to the antibiotics normally used to treat the infections. If you are going to be worried about bugs, we have them on our skin anyway, and they are only a problem if they are allowed to get in where they shouldnt be. There are lots of people in the community who go about their lives as carriers and do not even know they are. I just wish the press would actually tell people the truth instead of trying to scare them by telling them horror stories of something they dont really have all the facts on.
Roxanne // Mar 18, 2008 at 7:29 pm
I am reading this and I can tell you, that I had no open wounds before I got an absess on my butt. I was just having a shower and noticed what looked like a small pimple. I knew that was wrong as I never get them there. As the night went on it grew fast and furious and it became hot. So before this I was completely fine and had no symptoms or sores. So who really has all the right information? Not real sure but I know that I can’t work and somedays I can barely move.
James Miglionico Sr. // Mar 18, 2008 at 9:54 pm
I was locked up in a County Jail for 7 months. There is communal clothing, and communal linen and blankets, communal showers, and generally packed spaces with cells designed for one adult man, where there are 3 adult men, and a small communal living area. As for the Nurse saying that you can’t “Get MRSA”, that is false. I Got MRSA in jail, unclean enviornments, it does spread, and will as rapidly as it can. It is true that MRSA is Methicin-Resistant-Staph-Aurelis, meaning, A Staph Infection that is Resistant to (some) antibiotics, specifically Methicin and Pennicilin based antibiotics, but Sulfur based antibiotics can be highly affective. I do also know that MRSA is becoming more and more resistant. The way to stem that is to stop pressuring Doctors for antibiotics when you are a relatively young and healthy individual who can most likely fight off most ailments with proper rest, food, and fluids. Its the overuse of antibiotics that has caused MRSA to happen.
Roxanne // Mar 19, 2008 at 8:05 am
It is funny that the nurse said you can’t “get it”. I do agree it is everywhere, but if it is not contagious how come we are using the universal procautions with this? I have3 nurses and doctors gloved and masked to the hilts and wondering why? Because you can get it! I now am going to see a infectious disease specialist to see if a coctail of drugs will do the trick, I don’t want them but I can’t work and I have wounds all over my butt, nurses come everyday and pack me. You know I still watch people come and go out of washrooms without washing their hans and before they eat, people need to be more aware of issues like what we are all dealing with in order to comprehend the importance of hygiene. And simple handwashing! Good luck to everyone who has delt with this or any other infectious disease, and thanks to everyone for letting me know we are not alone!
Lynne // Mar 21, 2008 at 12:22 pm
I have to say people have misunderstood when I said you cant ‘get it’. obviously you can acquire it but people are talking about getting it like it is chicken pox or a cold or something. I meant it is not an ailment or a disease you catch, it is a infection. you can acquire infecions and the reason people wear gloves ect is so they dont carry it elsewhere. People are saying they had MRSA, like they say they had chicken pox or measles or something, it is not a disease in itself, it can conribute to causing illness by infection. Thats what I was saying.

My son somehow contracted the MRSA bacteria. He had an abscess in his pelvic region, an epidural abscess that went from his L1 to his C1, necrotizing pnemonia, and the pleural space around his heart was infected with the bacteria. He never had any skin lesions and had been tested by a nasal swab 3 weeks before he got sick. I do understand that it can develop quickly. But the bacteria is very dangerous if not taken care of. We are not filthy people and we wash our hands and take our hygeine seriously. He never had any visable cuts or scrapes. It managed to get into his blood stream and cause serious complications. He spent 32 days in the PICU and another 7 on the pediatric floor after he was discharged he spent 6 months with a broviac for IV medication which we adminstered at home every twelve hours. After he had been home for 3 months he went back into the hospital with 2 gram negative bacteria infections in his blood stream. This created further complications because the MRSA bacteria is a gram positive bacteria so the same antibiotics would not work for both. I do understand that our case was rare but it can happen. It was not the intention of the media to cause a scare but rather to educate the community on how serious that ANY bacteria can be and to give the staff at the facility the credit they deserved and RARELY receive. They worked very diligently to find out what was making him sick and even at that it took 5 days. We felt very blessed to have our son at a facility that could intelligently care for him. There was several days that both the staff and myself thought he would not make it through. I can truly understand why people are concerned but it is our job to compasionately educate.

Well I am new to the MRSA deal to.. just got it about three days ago. This is nothing to mess with. I went in on Monday and I was told that I had a spider bite. By Tuseday morning I had a brite red line from my lower calf (were the infetcion started) all the way up to my groin. I went to the E.R. and got checked out. It was bad enough that I could hardly walk. I have been taking anti-biotics and its now getting better. I know I had it easy compared to alot of you.. but if you think you have it don’t hesitate to get checked… it’s not worth losing your limbs or worse…. good luck to all that have this miserable infection!!

My boyfriend got a tatto not too long ago and contracted som pimples, so we thought until he got a wopper on his rear end. It was big red knot of blood and puss. After that it went away. He then got two more tatto’s and one of them on his right leg is so infected that he can barely walk on it. He went to med center last week they gave him som antibiotics and sent him home saying it was staph infction. He went today for a check up & a different DR> is sayin MRSA & gave him even better anti biotics I wish they would just give him a shot for it. The only problem is he is elergic to pennicillin. Go figure!!! He is verry scared and thinks the worst! He did have it for a while before he whent to the doctor too! Just wondering if anyone knows what the chances of me contracting it from him?

Hello everyone,
About 4 weeks ago, I had seen a little red spot on the top of my head right by my hair line, I thought I had dry head, being as it was winter time…So I went out and bought me some dandruff shampoo… well a week later it was still there and a lot bigger… so then I concluded that it was a spider bite, because my family seems to get them a lot.. a week later I went to the hospital for it, they told me it was an abscess, well now this week I went back and there was a doctor from Chicago there and he told me automatically it was MRSA.
I am waking up with my eyes and forehead swollen, I am on an anti-biotic, and a pain killer… it does’nt seem to be working. So TODAY I will be going back, and hopefully this time they do something before it spreads all over my body.
katia // Apr 29, 2008 at 3:19 pm
I was diagnosed with MRSA after having a painful lump removed from under my arm. After researching it online, panic set in. After seeing an infectious disease specialist, reason set in. This is an infection, not a disease or lifelong infection. Be sensible and logical in regards to how you treat your body. Get enough rest and fluids. Eat right and exercise often to boost your immunity. Do not give the infection any reason to further attach itself to you. After a round of antibiotics and proper wound care, I began a round of MRSA cultures (from my nose, groin and armpits). The first was negative, and I just had the second culture taken today. In my region, we are considered “clear” of it after 3 negative culture results, but again, continue to be sensible. Maintain proper hygiene and be vigilant about any strange marks on your body.

Hello. I never knew that MRSA was so bad! I dont have it but my fiance got a 2nd degree burn on his leg and about 2 weeks later his leg was swollen 3 times the size as the other and he had a huge bump on it that broke open and started draining pus. we finally went to the doctor and they cut it open to let it drain further. the sad part is that about a month ago i had playfully bitten him and i accidently bit to hard and it got very infected and they diognosed him with cellulitis. they gave him antibiotics and he got better. they took a culture and never even bothered to tell us until we went in for this infection that his other infection was MRSA. does that mean i gave it to him? am i a carrier that is what is so called “colonized”? will he infect me because he didnt know he had it? i am pregnant. is it worst or a hazard for people who are pregnant? my only son is 1 and a half. should i watch out for him? please email me with some answers if any one with any medical knoweledge reads my comment.

Ok, so the conclusion.. I went back the the hospital because I couldnt afford the medication that they had prescribed me. The woman there told me ” Oh you really need to be taking your anti-biotic ” I said yeah I do know that, but it costs $112.00, and I am broke right now… and she said “well I can have you see the doctor and see if he can write you a different prescription for a cheaper anti-biotic.”I said, ” if I am going to sit here in the waiting room just to go back there, to have another doctor write me ANOTHER prescription that I CANT AFFORD, then I will just go home and suffer..
So I cried all the way out the hospital and on the way home.. but my husband had remembered that I had applied for medicaid for him,my son and myself.. so we decided to go down and talk to the caseworker and told her what was going on.. so she pulled out my file and she said she had not gotten to it yet, but she would TRY to get it done by the next day.. and we said ok thank you and left, hoping. Well about two hours later, I checked my phone, there was a missed call and a voice mail, it was her, she said she had gotten it approved, that I could come in and pick up my card the next day. Wow I couldnt believe it. Someone had the heart to stay after work and put me ahead of the rest of her work. After the hospital had treated me like shit. That made me feel great. So the next day I ended up getting the medicine they had prescribed me in the first place, im still taking it, and the bump on my head has really gotten a LOT smaller, so I think and hope it is going away.
But once the bump does go away.. should I be tested for it again or what should I do?
I feel so bad for anyone who has had or has this, it really is awful. May god bless you all.

And did you know that when your swab is clear, you should be tested for three consecutive weeks with neg results before you are clear? when I went in for number two the doc said I should always just asume I have it, you should do the same. Also anyone have rashes or burning throughout the body????

I had mrsa about 2 yrs ago, it appeared as boils on my abdominal region, it felt as if I had the flu and mono at the same time, I do not wish this terrible infection upon anyone, as it is very life threatining if left untreated. I remeber my doctor prescribed me dioxycylin to kill the bacteria, the antibiotic made me feel terrible but it cured the stahf. I glad to hear that the boy has recovered, he is very fortunate.

I have heard many stories across the nation of people who have contracted mrsa and about those people they know who have contracted. for those of you who have it my wife and i will be praying for you. Please make sure that whatever disinfectant you are using make sure that on the label it states that it is epa registered for killing mrsa. if you wish to speak with me or want more information you can call me at 888-712-7127 x 3768, or x 3769 Lilly who is my wife. please do not wait to find a disinfectant thats epa, mrsa is everywhere, in fabrics, hard surfaces, walls, chairs, and even your clothing. educate yourself, and protect yourself. james

I’ve been reading all the comments on here. this is awful and I’m very scared for her. my co-worker says it’s been going around our schools here in our hometown and I just have never heard anything about it. my great niece is 2 and she has “boils”, if you will, all around her groin area and thats it. I dont see her alot but I think she’s still in good spirits with it. Apparently, this is her 3rd episode with it. I pray for everyone who has this terrible disease. is it a disease? I’m not sure. I’ll keep reading. I dont wish this on anyone.

NEW ACTIVEPURE TECHNOLOGY PROVEN TO REDUCE EXPOSURE TO METHICilliN RESISTANT STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS (MRSA)
A new technology known as ActivePure (RCI), developed by Tennessee-based EcoQuest International, has been proven in peer-reviewed, published university laboratory studies to reduce Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on inoculated surfaces.
Recent outbreaks of MRSA in many school districts have had school administrators and parents concerned.
Based on NASA research, ActivePure (RCI) has been proven in laboratory testing at Kansas State University to reduce MRSA by more than 99 percent in 24 hours on surface areas. This has enormous implications for reducing exposure to infection-causing germs.
“ActivePure safely inactivates germs in the environment 24 hours a day, without sprays or wipes, the same way it happens in nature,” said EcoQuest Founder Mike Jackson.
“And, it’s convenient. One of our systems called the ecobox is about the size of a toaster,” said Jackson. “You can move it all around the environment.”
Testing also proved that the units reduce other bacteria, viruses, yeast, mold and fungi on surfaces by up to 99 percent. Products using ActivePure (RCI) have been installed in schools, day cares, nursing homes and restaurants. This technology is also available to consumers.
The use of ActivePure can reduce exposure by inactivating a majority of harmful bacteria, viruses and mold from surfaces in the protected area,” said Dr. James Marsden, Regents Distinguished Professor at Kansas State University and a lead researcher involved with the testing.
“In combination with good hygiene practices, such as hand washing, a reduction in bacteria and viruses on environmental surfaces could reduce the risk of infections,” said Marsden.

I’ve had MRSA since April of 2007. I know how painful & frustrating it can be. I had to have 2 removed I couldn’t walk, bathe or clothe myself because it was on my leg. It ran 8 inches down. Those were the worst 2 months of my life. I’m afraid of dying from this..I know what your son is going through..& I feel deeply sorry for him.

Mr.James Lee, a Chemical Engineer, is a West Point Graduate and was a Professor at West Point. He serves as an anti-terrorist consultant to Corporate America and Homeland Security.
outside consultant and not an EcoQuest Dealer, said that . EcoQuest has completely unique products.
How does the technology work? The RCI (Radiant Catalytic Ionization) takes water vapor and oxygen from the air and creates hydroperoxides, the most prominent of which is hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). This simple-looking but complex molecule has 2 negative charges and 2 positive charges. Microbes are drawn towards these charges. Hydroperoxides, he said, work 40 times faster than ozone. In an application environment, EcoQuest’s hydrogen peroxide concentration rises to .02 parts per million, which is 1/50th of the EPA 8-hour safety standard. We get a 90% kill in 1 hour and a 96% kill in 2 hours. Actually, higher kills—up to 99%—have been reported by Kansas State University.
According to Mr. Lee, corporations that install our technology realize these benefits…
ï·ï€ Reduce the number of absentee days, which contributes to productivity
ï·ï€ Lack of business interruption
ï·ï€ System pays for itself
ï·ï€ Increases employee confidence in the corporation
Many places need this technology. Staph is becoming epidemic in high schools, college gyms, health clubs, hospitals, clinics, and doctors’ offices. Many diseases are becoming resistant to antibiotics. EcoQuest technology can kill these germs including Staph and MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

I recently just found out that I have MRSA. Not only that, but I am 8 months pregnant. For the past 14 months, i have been told that the soars under my armpits, were just boils. Two days ago, I finally went to another doctor, and right away he told me the horrible news. I’m so scared to pass it on to my 19 month old daughter and boyfriend. They haven’t caught it, so they might not be carriers. The doctor said you can only catch it if you’re a carrier and touch someones infected area. I had no idea how I could have caught it, and in my armpits. Finally, I remembered my cousin having a boil lanced on her stomach area, and around that same time I had borrowed a bra from her. The doctor told me that her sweat could have been on the bra, and went into my pores. I am so scared, I’m only 20 years old. My baby is coming soon, and I don’t want her to have anything like MRSA. THe doctor also told me if I have to have a c-section, that it could cause a huge internal problem, and possible infect my abdominal cut. I’m truely scared, they hurt sooooo bad. My armpits are so gross looking, and I’m embarassed to wear anything sleaveless, for fear someone will see them. I probably get 3-4 soars a week. Good luck to all of you who suffer from this. I hope none of you get it as bad as I have it. Hopefully the medicines that the doctor prescribed me work. All I can do is pray and wait. Good luck to all of you.
Roxanne // Jun 12, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Hello Ann;
This is for you. I want to inform you that the idea of only a carrier getting it, is silly. Your doctor should not have said that also he should have not said that only if you touch the wound. I KNOW i have not touched anyone’s wounds and I still have it. Also I do feel for you as I to have had the boils but on my bottom over my cyactic nerve. I too have had coctails of drugs and they tell me it is gone, I do not believe that as I still have moments of dizziness and burning in my body, always asume you have it. Clean your clothes with a bit of Javex and medical tools with Alcohol, and as always take care:)
Ann // Jun 13, 2008 at 9:26 am
i dont get buring throughout my body, but i do experience dizziness quit often. could that be related to this horrible infection?
Roxanne // Jun 13, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Yes, I do believe so. I have had alot of different things like rashes on my chest hands and arms, it comes and goes. I can’t find any cream to get rid off it when I have it. headaches, etc.
Ann // Jun 16, 2008 at 11:26 am
I got a call from my doctor this past weekend, and he said that my test results came back, and they were negative for MRSA. At my last doctors appointment, he told me that he was 100% sure it was MRSA. Guess what, he had me on multiple medications not safe at all for pregnant womaen. I immediately quit taking them. Thank you all so much for all of your support. Good luck to all of you. And all I can say is get a secong opinion, no one person is ever right.

My 1 yr old had MRSA in February of this year, the doctors that took care of her were awesome.
We took her to a childrens hospital and ended up having surgery to her leg. It was not a pleasant experience and to this day we are very afraid for her.

I had MRSA about a year ago. Is it possible that it comes back even if I’m not around anyone with MRSA infection? Is it rare for this to happen or is it very likely that i will get the sores again? After reading this it’s making me scared even though i’ve been fine for a while.
kaitlyn // Jun 24, 2008 at 4:47 pm
i too was told i had folliculitis, was on antiobotics cedaproxil somthing like that, it was fine but after 5 days of being on antiobiotics it started again like i got 2 new ones, is that normal for newones to happen during the course of antibiotic?. i went to the dermatologist a week after and he concluded it was mrsa but without skin testing me first like for cultures… put me on some new antiobiotic.. has anyone ever been through this and have they found a cure, does anyone believe in “NATURAL” cures out there. please i am soo scared i have a baby and a husband im so scared and everything ive been reading here makes me feel worst im so frustrated and just hope there can be something done to cure this terrible infection. please anyone out there know of something to kill this horrible thing.

I jus found out that my son has MRSA in 2 wounds on his knee. I work in the hospital, so I know a little about it-however this brings a new level of doubt. I have to say I have many of the same questions everyone else here does. Most of all, does it ever completely go away after the wounds heal, or must I always be afraid of it reoccuring? I know many of our patients in the hospital test positive as carriers after their nasal swabs come back positive. I just fear he will now have to battle this for the rest of his life. Glad to hear about Caleb, my prayers are with you tonight.

Brittany // Jul 7, 2008 at 10:45 pm
yeah & at first i had 2 on my right leg. so it was extremely painful to walk. so i thought they were spider bites. but then the doctor concluded them to be MRSA.
im really sorry about Caleb & i hope he’s doing okay.

Marianne // Jul 15, 2008 at 5:17 pm
I was reading through some of these and got a little concerned. I myself work at a hospital and come into contact with patients daily with mrsa. It is uncurable at the moment, it can get or be in any organ or part of your body, and most importantly it can be airborne if the patient has mrsa of the sputum, so for those who THINK they know all the answers find out the real ones before trying to tell others wrong information and allowing the virus to keep growing. The only way to help yourself if making sure you wash your hands after touching daily things such as karts, food items, cell phones, purses, door knobs and so forth. The best of luck to everyone…this is a worldwide supervirus!

Hi, I have been trying to research MRSA for some time now. My 17month son has it. It started first with severe boils in his groin area and the doctor said it was MRSA and didn’t act like it was a big deal. My son has had ear infections since he was 4months old, and got tubes at 12months. The ear infections never cleared up, and we keep going to the ENT.
After me telling her that my son was treated with MRSA, she was concerned that it could be in his ears. Sure enough, she tested his ears, and the lab determined that he as the hospital type of MRSA. He has been on antibiotics since Sept. of 2007, and we can’t clear it up. We are thinking has had MRSA this whole time and we didn’t know it. So, I don’t know what to do. He is currently on antibiotics, and we see the ENT about every two weeks. MRSA won’t go away and I don’t know what I should do as a parent. If somebody has some good advice, I would love to hear it. Please help.

I visited my home country Iran for 2 weeks. During a trip through the jungle I got bitten by a bug named Dracula(Don’t ask me what it is).
When I came home to Sweden the doctors told me that my blood is MRSA infected.
This happened a few days ago so I’m still infected.
I feel fine and the doctors told me that I won’t infect other people as long as my “bug wound” stays closed.
The doctors told me that it won’t effect my life.
I can still workout, play soccer, you name it. How come this case and the cases all of you have been telling us about are so serious?

I work in a jail as others have mentioned too. MRSA is a major issue in that type of environment, as it is in hospitals and schools. Lately Ive been scared that I might have it because about a week ago I got one bump on my arm that looked like a pimple and the next day it flattened out but got wider and looks pink and dry like my skin is pealing in the center of it. Its a little smaller then a dime. few days later, I have more small bumps in the same arm, same side, as if creating a road. No pain. No open sores. they just look like a small rash or allergy. But now I am convince that I need to get checked for MRSA.
I feel bad for everyone suffering from MRSA and their family.
I cant believe there is no cure. If anyone knows, can you answer this question for me: is leaving with MRSA similar to living with HIV, or other body fluid contact deceases? I’m confused, is MRSA a virus or infection?

I want to buy something now to send with my child to school for there class to keep there hands nice and clean how scarey!

I found out I have MRSA in my armpit. It is awful. Being a college student with this is horrible. I cannot sleep at night for the pain and with limited funds already, it is difficult to keep up with the medical needs of this. I recently went from one open sore to one open and two closed in the same area. I have been on antibiotics for 4 days awaiting the culture tests but I dont know if they have worked at all. How long do these things drain for? Anyone know about when the sores start to get better at all because right now its so bad I have trouble concentrating in class and need this to get cleared up ASAP.
Roxanne Cuevas // Aug 28, 2008 at 11:20 am
Krista,
I was diagnosed with MRSA last year. I don’t think it ever goes away, but I found a good remedy that will give you relief. I found this at http://www.earthclinic.com. The remedy is Turmeric. I’ve tried it and it works almost miraculously in making boils heal almost overnight. I drink a glass of warm water, with one teaspoon of Turmeric powder, 3 times a day. It only took like 2 days of that, for boils to heal. They just heal faster. Try it. Also wash the area with hydrogen peroxide and apply neosporin. I’ve also been to the doctor when I was first showing symptoms of this. They did put me on antibiotics that helped. But try the Turmeric. It’s just a cooking spice and can’t hurt. It helped me.

I have been diagnosed with MRSA and had an outbreak on each leg, for the past few years I have had leg and back issues, I’ve had MRI’s and all came back what looked like a herinated disc and they sent me to a surgeon well she said that there was a slight one nothing that would explain the aching and sharp pain i’m having. I’ve gone though physical therapy and nothing has worked. Now the weird part is that when I had the outbreaks and went to the doctors and she drained them and did a biopsy and thats when she called me to her office and said they found MRSA, while the wounds were open my legs weren’t as aching and tingling but now that 2 weeks have past and the wounds are closed my legs are hurting real bad as well as my lower back, could this be a sign that I have MRSA else where? Please i’m sick of being in pain and I want someones feedback if they have experienced the samething.
I’m so glad that little boy is okay!

My daughter got an infection on her lip and the doctor thought it was a cold sore but that night she woke me up in the night because her lip grew 3 times the size and she ahd it drained and took antibiotics then it happened again and she went on a low dose antibiotic as a preventitive which seems to have worked. My mom and sister in Calif. got MRSA (not sure my daughter had MRSA) they told me it was Staph. My dad who also lives in another part of Calif. got a staph infection and now my husband has absesses in his mouth and he thinks he has a blood infection and we went to a walk in clinic and they did a strep test and we had to beg to get a blood test but the doctor said since he is taking antibiotics the test won’t give a true diagnosis so he suggested he go off the antibiotic for a couple of days but he is afraid to and I don’t believe that is true. Does anyone know if it is?? I pray that all you people will be healed in Jesus name and go on to be strong and that this wicked thing that comes from the pit and Satan will be irradicated. everyone is carrying mrsa its only when you have wounds, surgery, and your immune system breaks down that it attacks. and thats when they start surpression therapy. the only reason why they wear gloves and aprons is because mrsa particles stick on your clothes and if they dont wear aprons etc they have the risk of passing it on to other patients. hence why if you come in to contact with patients that have mrsa you have to wash hands and use the alcohol rub the hospitals have on there wards.

i have had mrsa for almost 3 years now and i am sixteen mrsa is from community or hospital i got mine from a high school not fun at all the infection is spread if the wound is open and is leaking that is the only time that it could be contagious or if the person is having an outbreak with it and they kiss or combine fluids or drink after it…. if u have it take care of it first sign put hot or warm compresses on it and take tylenol so u dont get a fever because that can cause to have more bumps and see a doctor asap to get antibiotics and please stay clean have hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes trust me that will help lots i shout now my outbreaks dont happen very often because i do that trust me

I finally went to the doctor after my 5th one because they just seemed to get worse. I have eczema so I have a weak immune system to begin with. The doctor gave me Bactrum and I am almost done taking it. I haven’t had another one yet, and I hope to god I dont. My legs used to get terrible out breaks, I was told it was MSSA….Still a staph infection…I take bactriumDS but it goes, then comes back a month or so later….painful red pimples, and boils under my arms….This is a very painful infection, I have/go to my doctor’s office even went to UVA…They took a nose sample, I haven’t heard from them yet…..I am veryyyyy tired of this and I wonder will I have to deal with the painful bumps the rest of my life….I am currently having them real bad on my back, breast, and stomach area…..I pray my kids never go thru this now my son just had a boil under his arm, I freaked out but his was different from the ones I get. He got pus out of his mines ususally just have blood in it……If there is some type of relief I would love to know what it is.

I am reading comments here that say MRSA is not airborne but my grandmother was had MRSA in her lungs and bloodstream. The doctors and nurses said that it WAS airborne. They required everyone who came in contact with her to wear gowns, gloves, and masks.
She eventually had to be put on a ventilator and we did not have to wear the masks anymore because the ventilator didn’t allow the MRSA to become airborne. A few weeks later the hospital said that she didn’t have MRSA anymore, they took her off the ventilator and sent her to a rehab facility where she went into respiratory arrest the same day she was transferred. The following day she tested positive for MRSA once again and her right lung collapsed. In the following days tests showed that she had severe brain damage from the lack of oxygen during the respiratory arrest. Our family decided to take her off life support but her heart stopped naturally just minutes before we were to meet with the doctor to tell him our decision. We had already told the hospital that we did not want her to be resuscitated, she passed away when she was ready which was somewhat of an emotional relief.

My daughter got MRSA from a scrape on her knee. when we 1st went to dr.’s they xrayed it and gave antibotic’s, next morning she had a red line about 1 inch wide and 6 inches up her leg! Back to dr. sent to hospital to drain and new meds. that worked. Back home 2 more of my girls contacted it , one had no cut or scrape. Our family dr. said we could be colinizing it in the family. We all used some tropical ointment up our nostrals and bathed in antibactral soap for 4 days. I went thruogh the whole house with lysol and washed all bedding. It seems to be gone now but what a scare.

I developed a freak infection in my right calf in May of 2007. I spent 5 days in the hospital…not exactly what you expect as a healthy 31 year old. While I was in the hospital, I contracted MRSA. I have been battling this for 18 months now. I am currently on antibiotics for another round of it. It does seem to go into “remission”. But we have not found the right combination of medicines. In the meantime, I now have chicken pox like scars. I am anemic and am experiencing some reactions to all the medicines. I hope and pray that you all get better. Btw….if you will lysol everything (including mattresses) you can keep people from catching it. My 15 year old daughter hasn’t gotten it yet. We’ve been very careful.

I was in the hospital for two weeks and have been home now for two weeks. I was treated for a MRSA soft tissue infection that started in my scrotum (swelled like a grapefruit) then extended all the over to my right flank to lower back. Doctors said I was two days away from being in the ICU. Two surgeries put two holes in my body to cut away the dead or dying tissue. Another surgery to replace the dressings and another surgery to hook me up to a wound vac. I was on various antibiotics via IV in the hospital to kill the MRSA bacteria and it worked! I was told I would need IV hooked to me via pick line an additional 4 weeks but then when was discharged I was prescribed Bactrim pills twice a day for 14 days which I just finished today. Blood results confirmed MRSA has left my body. My wound vac has already closed up my holes about 50% in just 18 days. My General Surgeon, Dr. David Crooks, was amazing. Without him I would have been transferred to a much bigger hospital further away. MRSA is not an airborne disease. You usually get MRSA the same way you do a common cold. Picking it up on your hands from then putting your hands to your face or to a pimple or wound. Check out the web site link I left here. KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN!!!
One final note: If you prescribed Oxycontin for pain, MAKE SURE YOU ARE WEANED OFF OF IT OR ELSE YOU WILL GO THROUGH NASTY WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS! That’s what I dealt w/ this week! That was worse then dealing w/ my wounds.
Evie // Nov 16, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Be VERY wary about anyone who is selling something and “claims” to have a “cure.”
ALL of us who have struggled with this (and yes, I AM one too) KNOW there is no known cure.
Wash your hands like a madman, keep your clothes and bedding separate from other family member’s and **treat all family members’ nasal passages** as well as your own (they may be carriers)!!
Renee // Nov 18, 2008 at 4:37 pm
No I don’t think there is a cure for this I have tried everything and been on and off antibiotics for the last 5 years since 2003…..But I have found comfort in using Dial anit-bacterial soap…I use it everyday and when I do get the lil red bumps I use the soap directly on it and it goes away within 48 hours….So go out and get some, as much as I love Oil of Olay ribbons, I had to say goodbye for now and use Dial….

My sister contacted mrsa at her job, she was pretty sure its what it was and it was. She was lucky enough that they put her on two antibiotics before her test results came back and one of them being one that would work for her strand. It can be threatning but depending on how you keep clean and how quickly they find the right medication depends on how severe it can get. People if you get this TAKE ALL YOUR MEDICATION! the problem with mrsa is when people get it and dont finish there antibiotics and then its passed on to someone else and it changes! It is possible they wont ever get it again but in my sisters case i guess in the medical field its not uncommon they just keep thereself very clean so they dont get it again. My family went through two years with MRSA going through the family. We did a lot to prevent spreading and eventually we got rid of it — 6 mos. staff free. We had everyone tested and found out that our youngest was a “carrier”, so we treated her with antibiotics (she never got it, but carried it). We monitor her showering and habits. We immediately covered any wound because they are contagious. Washed everything in bleach or oxi clean (laundry, surfaces, etc.). The whole family used a nasal (MRSA can be found around nasal and anal area). Finally I bought one of the UV Lights that they sell. They say not to use it on skin, but it works amazingly well. As soon as we suspected something was MRSA I would run the light over it. You can find these on the Web but you have to make sure it’s the right ray UV-C.

Also, we stopped using bar soap (MRSA can be spread that way) and use only pump soap in the shower. We also only use paper towel in the bathroom (no hand towels). All these things listed above and here, helped us get MRSA out of our house. We think my daughter got it at the school locker room (she’s an athlete and locker rooms have been known to carry it).

My lil girl got mrsa just a few weeks ago. She is only one. It was something that happen just over night one day she was well and the other she got really sick. She lost about 6 lbs and didnt eat for weeks. I am on top of her health since she has always been sick since she was born so I took her in right away but she still needed to get an operation. The mrsa was the bigger then a golf ball. They told me that she had gotten better. But since the operation she has still been the same with not eating and loseing lbs. No one in my family has had to deal with this. She has been on so many diff meds for this her body is starting to shut down and dose not know how to react anymore. And just a few days ago she got another outbreak but this time they are three infection spots. I dont know what to do No one really tells me to much about it only to make sure she takes her meds. Is there anything that i can do to stop her from getting the outbreaks. And i Wish you and your familys the best. I will pray for all of you. GOD BLESS..

I was diagnosed with mrsa about 4 months ago and given a cycle of bactrim and myuprocin gel to put on the sores. I probably had about 10 in total, some larger than others, but the best way to control it is not to let it get out of hand. Always put bandaids on the sores so the pus doesnt spread, wash your hands after touching them, and for sure take the antibiotics given. I haven’t had an outbreak in 4 months.

My daughter had MRSA last March and we have had no signs of reoccurence and I believe it was becuse of this staphwash we put on it. It kills 99.9 of ALL bacterias so it healed up very fast and as I said, never retuned.

hey,
I also have Mrsa, the doctor i was going to wasnt the right one, they put me on antibiotics and it seems to come back after 3 weeks of being off the meds, so finally they sent me to a better doctor and it should go away, mine i dont believe is in my blood but i have heard from many doctors it can and will go away unless you have waited too long.
I’m glad to hear your little boy i doing better, i pray for him.

Im 7months pregnant and we jus found out my boyfriend has mrsa. And we recently had sex. Can I get MRSA through havin sex? Or can it harm my unborn baby?
cathy conner // Feb 14, 2009 at 10:10 am
please contact me if you have any questions cathyconner333@hotmail.com I have pictures of my daughters arm that shows how the MRSA was eradicated in just hours!!!
cathy conner // Feb 14, 2009 at 10:33 am
Jaq I dont think you can get it from sex unless he had a open sore you came in contact with during sex!!
Make sure you ALWAYS keep the sores covered and use Gloves when treating the sores. The oozing(puss) is what is highly contagious! We used latex gloves and put any bandaids in sealed, ziplock bags before we put them in the trash so NOONE could come in contact with the puss! Use “breathable ,waterproof “bandaids so the puss cant leak out from the bandaid and come in contact with anything else!!!
Try and figure out where it came from initially!! My daughter got it from our cat. Who was very sick for a month before we figured out that MRSA was what the cat had. We “germ bombed” our house and had to keep the cat kenneled till she healed up so as not to spread it. We were lucky!! Remember gloves and ziplocks!! also bleach all sufaces that have come in contact with the puss. Dont share towels, soap, razors, clothes, bedding, anything that could possibly be contaminated. Wash them seperatly from your stuff!!!! In HOT ,HOT water!!! If you know something is contaminated that you cant wash Ziplock bag it or tie it up in a trash bag and get rid of it!!!! Feel free to contact me with any other questions you have. Good Luck!!!

Hi everyone, I had a staff infection on my right arm less than a year ago and recently I have had a terrible outbreak which spread to both of my arms and its so bad that i’ve been hiding it with long sleeves for too long now….I know how serious it is and the day before I was going to go see a doctor, my boyfriend and I broke up which broke my heart and I have been sleeping my days away. After we broke up I did not care about even taking care of myself-but anyways, It has gone on too long and my arms ache and are very painful to move or touch even softly. I know it is staff or mrsa and please pray that everything turns out okay for me and my family, we cannot afford this..

I would not recommend putting Neosporin on any MRSA infection as it its the WRONG anti-biotic base. If it is actually MRSA it (neosporin)would only make it worse!!!! We found this out first hand as they had us applying neo to my daughters arm from the time they took the culture till it came back possitive CA-MRSA then they said to stop! It had gotton SOOO MUCH Worse in just a couple of days from putting that on there! Neosporin is pennicillin base which is what this bacteria is resistant to. It just thrives in it. Just be very careful! I can’t believe your doctors didnt tell you that!!!
Good Luck and God Bless, Cathy

After reading some of these blogs and the heart rendering situations many of you are experiencing, I also wanted to let others know of my own personal story. About a year ago, I was diagnosed with MRSA. Initially, I took the antibiotics which were prescribed for me. But within 10 days to two weeks after that sore healed and the antibiotics were finished, I had several more sores to appear. The antibiotics had taken such a toll on my system that I researched the internet to try to find some other answer. I found it. I discovered information about an oral and topical compound extract that biochemists discovered. They are working in conjunction with both the East London University and physicans to help MRSA patients. What they have discovered is amazing! I’ve been on the compound and have not only experienced becoming free of MRSA but have had other positive results throughout my body. If any of you would like further information about this substance, please contact me at randy@teccareers.com (my husband’s email).
I understand what it’s like to go through this experience. And I believe that the Lord directed me to find the help I needed.

To the tattoo guy. Maybe you should think twice before you puncture you skin a million times if you know you are allergic to antibiotics.

I know this may sound absolutly disgusting but in recent studies maggots have shown to be the best treatment for mrsa. they say because they eat away at the dead flesh and leave the living, healthy flesh behind it allows the wound to heal and keep it clean from the bacteria. i would ask you doctor if you are going through mrsa to do that quickly before it gets into your blood stream so start at once! remember, they may be gross but they are better than surgeons and work 24/7 without pay! so ask your doctors about treament with maggots

I was told my baby had MRSA about 6 months ago. He was only 14 months at the time. I feel so helpless. He is still wearing diapers so he gets his sores there. When he gets them he can’t even sit down.I have 2 older boys and let me tell you bleach is my best friend. All we can do is hope they come up with something to fight this horrible infection. I have done alot of research on this condition and the more that I read about it the scarier it seems.

Hello my 3 year old son was diagonosed with MRSA when he was 2. He had to have surgery on both inner legs to have 3 boils removed ever since then he has got a boil every month sometimes two hes always on antibiotics and it scared me that the medicine will kill him or even the MRSA. This is soo hard to deal with. He recently got more boils as we speak and rash on his butt. i know this is already in his blood stream and its scarey. i use a remedy on his that is an antibiotic called OCHA you boil it will a spoon of honey and as soon as you see the boil coming you start cleaning with with that liquid seems to work but its still scary to deal with. I wish there was a cure for this terriable infection.

I hate hearing all these stories I suffer from it too….I had a boil just last week and I let it drain on it’s own but the rash is far and between since using Safeguard anti-bacterial EVERYDAY…..It helps keep the rashes/bumps/pimples whatever you want to call them down…USE SAFEGUARD OR DAIL ANTI-BACTERIAL SOAPS….It’s cheaper than using HeppaCleanse and it helps…

this was a followup to someone speaking to me… xD
the next time you talk to the doctor… when they are talking about surgery see if instead of just lancing the area and draining they can actually cut the intire hard shell of the boil out… sometimes this bubble like crust from underneath creates like an air pocket and they can actually remove the whole pocket. This is not to say that it may never come back… and it could possibly even leave scaring have they tried a prescription called sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim sus for septra/bactrim? If you have not see if they will prescribe this to your child.. .consult a doctor… my daughter is taking it and on top of diaper rash cream “destin” and the “1%” hydrocortisone cream she is clearing up. I also keep her finger nails trimmed and wash her hands all the time.. also make sure you use unscented wipes… and if they poop and you can give them a bath… and have time.. do so keeping the areas of infection as clean as possible is key too… dont share towels and always wash towels after a couple days use. make sure clothing is not too tight.. if child is still in diapers mine is working on training but accidents happen… again just clean clean clean… xD and get a soap called hybiclens it really does help with bacteria.. and it is safe for children even toddlers… just apply small amount to wash cloth and lather… and then wash only the infected areas of the skin.. let sit for a min and than rinse… I wish you the best of luck with your little one… this infection is scary… But I have survived it… so far healthy and well… xD… Talk to me anytime.. thanks for your advise as well!~Meg
Megan // Apr 15, 2009 at 1:39 am
This is a followup to you Randy XD
Well what you first need to understand is that MRSA is a BACTERIA and like all other bacteria it can be treatable if it is caught in its early stages of development. MRSA is not what kills people! STAFF KILLS PEOPLE! MRSA can lead to staff infections, horrible infections if it is not treated and or contained. That is why I call it the HIV off infections because you can live a long life with HIV and you can live a long life with MRSA. If MRSA like HIV however becomes immune to the antibiotics that attack it and break it down and in some instances make the bacteria either lay dormant or go away- Then the body can no longer fight for itself and the bacteria takes over the body like HIV causing infections that are so great that you can not heal from them. These infections are called staff infections and this is what causes the ultimate death surrounding MRSA.The downside is that some of us are carriers and by giving birth to our children can pass it on to them through genetics. Yes MRSA can be airborne if their is a serious outbreak of infection. It is more seen in children lately because children like to pick and scratch and than touch things or rub their germs everywhere. KIDS ARE KIDS! I don’t care how clean you think your child is at the age of 2-5 to even 18 kids have habits and a 4 year old is not always going to remember to wash their hands when they have gone to the bathroom and the bacteria may be passes around as easily as a hand shake or a hug from your buddy… Patty cake-ring around the rosey…Yes MRSA can spread like rapid fire across your body based on the way the bacteria takes to your skin. It is also good to find out if the contained abscise/boil/sis/pimple alone is MRSA or if your blood stream itself contains MRSA and you can have simple blood work done and biopsies to reveal these answers. Yes MRSA can be transferred if a contagious person or infected person has touched areas of the infection and than proceeds to go about daily activities such as touching objects that are going to be handled by others without washing their hands diligently.

Hello everyone found out something really intresting today, i took my 4 year old son to see his seventh Dr. for boils on his legs, but, and little rash all over his legs. The Dr. said that those boils are not MRSA. She said that he does have an infection so she gave him a strep throat culture and it came out positive, she said that either someone in daycare or household must have had the infection for a long time with out treating it. So she did a culture on my husband and he actrully was the one with strep. She said sometimes when strep goes untreated it starts to affect the skim with break outs in rash or boils. The child may not even have a sore throat but thats how they react to such infections, she said step if untreated could hurt their kidneys, and liver also. this was a relif to hear but intresting. She did put him on an antibiotic called sulfamethoazole. She said that he shouldnt be getting these anymore once the family is all treated. I will update you all on how he does and if this works.

hello, am very soory for all who is fighting MRSA… am really scared that my children get tihs, what can i do for them not to get it ?
thanks
Megan // Apr 30, 2009 at 1:31 am
Hi bamby unfortunately there is no way to protect your child from getting these bacteria if your child is around someone who has it and they don’t know they have it. For adults our lives can be done in routine and we are more cautious about what we touch or the enviroments that we put ourselves in. With children and especially children who go to school and are in public places often are suseptable to others that surround them that may or may not be aware of if they have mrsa. The best thing to do is to advise your children to wash their hands constantly and use paper towels to open bathroom doors, turn on/off faucets at school and teach your children about Mrsa. Make a routine for them that they could follow if possible… If your child already has Mrsa make sure your child understands what it is so that they are able to openly talk about it to their friends, teachers, or people in general because you never know who they might cross… The bacteria doesn’t just transfer by playing patty cake or jump rope unless the child has and open infection or has touched the wounded area without washing their hands afterwards. They then proceed to touch objects or places others might be touching and then it becomes transferable. The puss of a wound is the most contagious part of infecgtious Mrsa. Children should be taught not to pick at their skin, scabs, sis, boils, pimples etc… The best way to not let a child get it is if they are familiar with ways of how to get it and can keep up really great hygiene. Clip the finger nails, wash the belly buttons, behind the ears, between the toes and fingers, keep the nose clean, between the legs and the crack of their butts… lol… but it is all very true… this bacteria survives on moist dark places that are not kept clean or are overly clean. I say overly clean because if you bathe with say hybiclense every day 3 times a day your body can become very dry, irritated, itchy, flakey and bacteria will find itself drawn to this… a fresh clean start in a clean home on the body can lead to a really nasty infection that is unable to fight off the bacteria because it’s guard is let down as your skin is busy trying to find ways to heal itself back to normal. But this is not to say that you shouldn’t bathe once or even three times a day. You should always give your child a bath if they crap their diapers if you have the time because poop contains bacteria. Bacteria feed on bacteria. If y ou let you child get dirty or messy and they are sticky, wet and just dirty…. You should take steps to making sure after the play and fun are done, a bath or other means wash rags, wipes, hand sanitizers etc are there to clean up…. I guess really you just want to make good decisions for your child if they are not old enough to make them for themselves. You can also make your children where face masks if you go into say an environment like a hospital to pick up your medicine because you run the risk of making them susceptible to many different viruses or bacteria’s. People are sick there… So just use your parent judgment meter when you determine which kind of environments you need to be overly protective about with your children. School is a hard one because you don’t want your child to be singled out, alone or in fear of this bacterium and at the same time you don’t want them to get it or come in contact with someone who is contagious and a carrier of the bacteria who can give this to your child. I can’t really make these decisions for you as how to prepare your child for this… but I am sure you will figure out what you need to say and have to do in order to protect them from it to the best of your know how…Good luck…
Megan // Apr 30, 2009 at 1:43 am
The one other main thing I forgot!!!!!!!! make sure your child is up to date on all their vaccines shots and see’s the doctor regularly if you are able to afford this -as checkups are great ways to catch early signs of the infection and treat it before it does the damage!!! Keep a healthy body and keep positive… Mrsa is more common now and doctors are able to better diagnose it now then say 10 years ago…. As they are seeing more and more cases of it now and are able to learn so much more about it from those like me who do have it. I allow myself when asked to give blood for testing purposes because I have such a rare active strand and diagnoses… I am a carrier and even going through life with all the difficulty in dealing with this Mrsa… I like knowing that my blood will hopefully help give way for a stronger medicine to fight off this bacterium. So that others out there like me have a chance at a great life too…

I TOOK MY SON TO THE DOCTOR ALONG WITH MY DAUGHTER FOR A CHECK UP AND WHEN SHE GOT TO MY YOUNGEST SON, WHICH WAS RUNNING A FEVER OF 103 SHE STARTED TO CHECK HIM OVER AND FOUND THAT HE HAD A BOIL FROM HIS HIP WHERE THE DIAPER GOES OVER AND DOWN TO THE PRIVATE AREA. I THEN TOLD THEM THE MY OLDEST SON WAS GETTING THOSE ON HIS BUTT AND I JUST THOUGHT THEY WERE BOILS AND WAS POPING THEM AND DRAINING THEM OUT BUT THEY SAID NO. THIS LOOKS LIKE MRSA. SO THEY TOOK A NEEDLE AND OPENED THEM UP AND DRAINED THEM AND SENT OF SAMPLES TO THE LAB. THEY HAVE TO TAKE A BATH WITH 1/4 CUP OF BLEACH WHEN THEY BATH EVERYDAY. THEY ALSO PUT THEM ON A ANTIBIOTIC FOR THIS MRSA. THEY HAVE BEEN ON THAT FOR TWO DAYS NOW BUT MY OLDEST SON IS NOW MY SON IS COMPLAINING THAT HIS LEG IS HURTING. NOT SURE IF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO THIS BUT IT IS PRETTY SCARY. THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN THE RESULTS BACK FROM THIS BUT IT WORRIES ME. SO I AM GOING TO CALL THE DOCTOR AND SEE WHAT THEY WANT ME TO DO. I AM SO GLAD THAT GOD BLESSED YOUR SON WITH LIFE AND GOT BETTER. I COULD NOT GET THE NEWS REPORT ON IT BUT WOULD HAVE LIKED TO READ IT. THANK YOU.

My daughter is now almost 2 years old, she got MRSA when she was 6 months old. Since Staphylococcus aureus is already part of your normal skin bacteria once you have MRSA it becomes part of your normal flora. However, as it is an opportunistic bacteria we have to watch her constantly because whenever she gets sick, or is on antibiotics she can get another occurence of MRSA. Sadly it is always in areas where she gets diaper rash. Except she had one yesterday that I had to clean out that she got from a fever blister that had formed on her lip when she got sick a couple weeks ago, it popped and the bacteria got in there. Hopefully she does better.
MammaLion // Jun 28, 2009 at 8:31 am
I am so saddened to hear of some of the struggles everyone has faced or is facing. I am in Massachusetts, about 40 min outside of Boston. My 2 year old daughter just had a culture come back positive for MRSA, she had boils on her upper thighs and left hip. They looked like mosquito bites and overnight they turned into weeping pus filled boils. I cried when I took her pajamas off that morning to change her diaper and saw them. She has been on Bactrim for a week now. During the course of treatment a little pimple showed up on the back of her leg and they increased the dosage from 5mls to 8mls which seems to be working. 6 weeks before the boils, she had little scabs on the back of her head that the docs said was folliculitis, and they downplayed it as a normal staff infection, it was resistant to penicillin, so they gave her another anibiotic and it worked (Cleocin Pediatric), then she got these boils recently. It was only through researching online and scaring myself silly that I got the smarts to tell them to culture the boils for MRSA. And it came back positive for CA-MRSA. Follow your instincts people. I have a 1 month old newborn and I’m scared. My daughter has had 3 bouts of bronchitis in 6 months and I’m worried now that it is in her lungs. Interesting, though, that at our last MD visit, the pediatrician still was telling us that MRSA wasn’t a big deal in healthy kids. Then my daughter walked over toward the doc and lost her balance a bit and reached out her hands toward the doc and the doc drew back her own hands from my daughter’s hands. It all happened to fast but doc looked at me and saw that I saw that reaction and did damage control and put her hand on my daughter’s headina too late efforto to stead her. the doc has two toddlers of her own.SO, you’re going to tell ME that it’s not a big deal for MY daughter but apparently it is for YOUR kids? My conclusion: DON’T LISTEN TO DOCTOR’S at face value, listen to your heart as a parent or caregiver, or yourself - your body will tell you what it needs. And be as relentless as the bacteria is. Believe that God will point you in the right direction and do EVERYTHING you can. I’m going to ask our doc to test my daughter’s sputum, nostrils, and all the other areas it is harbored in, as well as a referral for an infectious disease pediatric doc. If our pediatrician downplays and refuses, I’m telling her I will go to someone who will help us and that if ANYTHING happens to my daugher I will come back with a vengeance to sue her ass. DO NOT LET PEOPLE TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT LIVING WITH THIS. DO ALL YOU CAN. My husband calls me Mamma Lion, and I’m proud of this new nickname. Put on your big girl panties, buck up, and get ferocious, I say. I will post back once my daughter is MRSA-free, (and will included every remedy, treatment, doctor, strategy, that I used) because it WILL happen, it’s only a matter of time, that’s all. May God and his angels hold you in their arms through this as They are for me.

mama lion please email me cathyconner333@hotmail.com I know of a product that I think would help your kids. I used it for my daughter and our cat who had MRSA last yr (March) neither have had any reoccurence and I believe it is because of this product we used. In an hrs time you could see that it had helped already. There are many facts I learned also that arent spelled out in the med websites; like that this bacteria regenerates itself in 6 hrs time so you have to change the dressings and clean it every 5 hrs to stay ahead of the bacteria. I have pics of both my daughters arm and our cat the antibiotics have horrible side effects so watch them close. I would look them up so you know whats normal like my daughter had panic attacks its a very common side effect yet noone warned us poor thing thought she was dying! please just let me help!

While bathing my two-year-old daughter, I noticed a small red area on her inner ankle that looked like a mosquito bite. I treated it with hydrocortizone cream, and the next morning it had doubled in size and developed a yellow head with a small black center. So, off to urgent care we went. The doctor informed me that proper drainage of the absess is often the most important step toward healing. He told me NEVER to drain it on my own, as I could spread the infection. He lanced and drained her boil and put her on a ten-day course of Bactrim. Two days later it was confirmed to be MRSA.
I am amazed at how well she has healed and am thankful she has had no pain. However, I am so scared for my little one as well as for my whole family. Since she was diagnosed, I haven’t been able to eat, sleep or concentrate on anything other than madly cleaning my house and checking my daughter for new bumps. My kids and I have very fair skin, so anytime they bump into anything or scratch their arms, for example, their skin turns temporarily red. Now I am freaking out every time I see just a mild little red spot on them. So far, there have been no further bumps, but my daughter has only been off of Bactrim for three days.
What’s worse, I know where she contracted MRSA. A new family started coming to our church last year. The husband was deployed with the military for 8 months. The family had no friends (they were new to the area), so I invited the wife and her children to my home often. I soon realized, however, that she was a tremendously neglegent mother. She admits to me that she has been turned in to child and family services on two separate occasions by two unrelated individuals. I tried to help her, and now I wish I hadn’t. One day, I went to her house to pick her and her toddler up for a lunch at church. While at church, she showed me this horrible rash that was all over her daughter’s bottom. She insisted that the doctor had seen it and that it was nothing and that her daughter was on Bactrim. Still, I was very alarmed. (I had no idea about MRSA then.) I saw them on Sunday at church and our children were in the nursery together. The next week, I called her to check on her daughter, and she told me that the little girl had painful boils all over her bottom, but that it was all okay — she didn’t have to go to the doctor anymore because when the little girl sat down, the boils were busting on their own (we’re talking ten to 12 boils on her bottom alone). Then she told me that the pus and blood was collecting in the little girl’s diapers! I thought I was going to faint when she told me that. Within two or three days, I noticed my daughter’s boil (so far she has only had one). When I found out it was MRSA, I called the church and all my friends who had been around my daughter recently so that I could warn them to watch out for boils. When I called this woman whose daughter had the rash, she said, “Oh, your daughter has MRSA? I guess she got it from my daughter.” She then told me her daughter had had MRSA for about a month. She hadn’t been covering her daughter’s boils, and her daughter frequently reached down her diaper to scratch them. I can’t believe she let her daughter go to church covered with contagious MRSA boils, KNOWING and not telling anyone it was MRSA!
Needless to say, I am angry, hurt, confused, scared - a large run of emotions. I am thinking about calling child and family services on this woman because she is so neglectful in so many ways (I can’t even begin to tell you). But I am afraid, as in the last two times she has been turned in, she will hide the truth and get away with her neglect. These kids desperately need another home.
What should I do? And how afraid should I be for my own daughter’s future health now that she has had MRSA? Any advice would be very helpful.

Sherry, I understand your concern for your baby and family. A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with a MRSA boil on my leg too. At first, I took the antibiotics but it took a month for the boil to completely heal. About 10 days after going off the antibiotics, several more boils appeared. Knowing all the negative side affects from the drugs and how they had reacted with my body, I did not want to go that route again. To make a long story short, I discovered (through research) a substance called stabilized Allicin. Biochemists are working with the East London University and with physicians to help people erradicate MRSA from their systems. This substance is amazing. Apparently, it strengthens the immune system and directly kills MRSA. I know because I’ve been taking it. I’ve taken no further antibiotics only the Allicin. And there are NO negative side affects. It’s not a drug. I’ve even read an article from Fox News about 250 people being release from this project in London having been cured of MRSA. I’ve personally talked with a young mother who also had a baby diagnosed with MRSA. She put her baby on the Allicin and the baby is doing great! Because of what I have see and now know about Allicin, I am wanting to let others know also.
