FresherLonger Food Containers with Silver?

June 7th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Sharper Image FresherLonger Miracle Food Storage (ZN020)I ran across this item today, and thought I would mention it, since I had silver on the brain earlier this week, as well as food storage. This is the Fresher Longer Miracle Food Storage, from The Sharper Image. Wow. Here are the features:

  1. Patent-pending silicone-gasket locking system and impermeable polypropylene containers keep out oxidizing air and seal in odors.
  2. Patent-pending antimicrobial silver nanoparticles infused into the containers reduce growth of mold and fungus.
  3. Extremely durable, heat-resistant polypropylene containers will not leak or break.
  4. Antibacterial silver nanoparticles remain effective after dishwashing and microwaving.
  5. Practical containers can be safely and effectively used throughout your kitchen.

I am a little germophobic, but I don’t think I am THAT germophobic. ;)

I bought a brand of these I believe it’s Oso Fresh. The silver gives them a very yellowish color. I got my set at Costco and paid about $60., but it was a very large set. Two huge (maybe 2 gallon) size and 4 each about 2qt, 1qt, 1 pint, 1/2 pint. I use them foR a lot of things in kitchen, they have a silicone gasket and 4 flip down latches (1 per side). They really lock the food tight and I have kept lettuce torn from head up to 3+ weeks and when I open it’s mostly still green and crisp! also other fresh vegetables and fruit. but NOT bananas, it seems to trap the gas emitted and quickly gives them a sweet over-ripe taste. Otherwise they have easily saved me teh cost in storage of fruit and produce! Would not be without them. I see some others out there with push-on lids but I would look for the snap down latch like my Oso Fresh. The locking tabs and silicone gasket in the lids keeps odors in and other taste out. Also, I would not microwave in them. It says you can on low/medium but a friend of mine heated his soup to the point where the edge oils like in other containers and it got that rough (I call it burnt look/texture) on edges where plastic gets rough. That area held the red color of the tomato base. Otherwise non of mine have held any color or oder when washed and wiped with a dishcloth. Wouldn’t be without them!
