Dr. Sean Elliot at University Medical Center is reacting to publishedreports in a Tucson paper about a bacteria called MRSA. The headlinereads, “Superbug that eats flesh is on the loose.â€Â
“I cringed, the story would suggest this is a brand new, hot off thepresses of urgency and that’s not the fact at all,†Dr. Sean Elliott said.

Flesh Eating Bacteria?
MRSA does pose some human threat. “But it is not as overt or significant as the paper would suggest,†Dr. Sean Elliott said.
MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant staphylococcus auereus. “Anantibiotic resistant form of a routine garden variety bacteria thatlives on our skin and in our noses,†Elliott told KOLD.
It’s been around for decades, but recently come to the attention of themedical community, not just in Tucson, but worldwide in the last fiveto 10 years. Elliott said, “That’s based on increasing numbers ofpatients hospitalized without prior health concerns who have thisbacteria.â€Â
