Information Disclosure

The pressure is on from my dear friend Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei at » Genetics and Public Health to be sure that all information about medical/health web sites is fully disclosed, so here goes:

1. Who runs this site? I do, Christina Jones, with assistance from Denise Rauff and Maureen Daly. We have all been affected by MRSA within our families, and have learned a great deal about MRSA through these experiences. We also share the desire to help support others in their battles with MRSA. You can read more about each of us here.

2. Who pays for the site? This site is privately funded by me, Christina Jones, with a small amount of help from advertising. The advertising here is keyword and contextually generated, in order to give you options from around the WWW that may be helpful to you. We have no association with any of those advertisers, and you should use your best judgement when using them for information or purchases. We also have a products page that has references to purchasing some of the products that we talk about a lot at MRSA Resources (mostly antibacterial products and books at this point). The links on that page go directly to drugstore.com with a small commission from any purchases made through those links going to MRSA Resources.

3. What is the purpose of the site? We are here to help patients and their support network find information and emotional support related to their battle with MRSA infections. We also provide materials and information about how to raise awareness of MRSA.

4. Where does the information come from? Information here comes from a variety of sources. News stories come from various media outlets and professional journals, and other noted online sources. Personal accounts come directly from people who have suffered MRSA infections, and information on the Superbug Wiki comes from a wide variety of sources, as it is editable by anyone, and this fact should be always considered when searching for information there.

5. What is the basis of the information? Whenever I have used information from another source, I always reference it with a link or an annotation, so that you can read the material for yourself. I try always to distinguish my opinion from those of others, and from the facts in the article referenced. Please let me know if I am not doing a good job at this!

6. How is the information selected? I select information from a variety of sources, but for factual information regarding MRSA, I always try to choose sources that are non-biased and are recognized for accuracy. I can take no responsibility for the potential bias of other news sources referenced here. We report MRSA news from the USA on this web site, so the news from other countries is intentionally disregarded. Please see MRSA Watch for international MRSA news.

7. How current is the information? I keep up with MRSA news on a daily basis, and try to present it to you as I find out about it. At times there is a few days delay.

8. How does the site choose links to other sites? I choose links to other sites based on several factors. If it is an informational link, then I choose it according to their reputation for accuracy. I also provide links to other sources of information about MRSA from personal web sites, and you must take that information, as you do information here, and decide for yourself if it is useful to you.

9. What information about you does the site collect, and why? We store no information about you. The only email addresses we keep on file are for those of you who have signed up to receive our newsletter and weekly chat announcements. Please see our privacy statement for more information.

10. How does the site manage interactions with visitors? We have many options for interaction. We encourage you to leave a comment in the blog, participate in the forum, join the weekly MRSA chat, sign the guestbook and MRSA map, submit information for our monthly newsletter and tips for our news blog and submit information to the Wiki. You are also free to contact any of us via email any time. We love the interaction, without it, we have no idea how we are doing, or what you would like to see here that would be helpful to you. Please keep the interaction coming!

Our disclaimer statement is on every page on the MRSAResources.com domain, but I will reprint it here:

DISCLAIMER: This group is made up of normal people. While some of us may be in the medical profession, we advise you to see your physician if you think you may have any illness or infection. If you choose to use any information on these pages, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. No clinical decisions should be made solely by the information contained herein. We try to provide quality information, but cannot make claims, promises, or guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or adequacy of any information contained in or linked to this website and its associated sites.

I hope this has been helpful to you in some way. If you are interested in seeing other sites who have participated in Dr. Lei’s web site disclosure questionaire, you can find them here.

My father passed away on Christmas Day 2 years ago after contracting MRSA at a VA hospital. Is there any current legal recourse that the family can pursue? Information is sketchy on the Internet and any help you can provide would be great. Thanks
