NEW YORK, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Inhibitex Inc. on Tuesday said U.S. regulators have indicated they may be willing to ease the requirements for approving its experimental drug to prevent hospital-related infections in babies with very low birth weight.
The company said the Food and Drug Administration has indicated itmight be willing to approve the drug, Veronate, even if it fails itsmain goal in a late-stage trial of preventing bloodstream infectionswith Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in premature infants weighingbetween 500 and 1,250 grams (1.1 pounds to 2.75 pounds) at birth.
