international-meeting-on-emerging-diseases-and-surveillance-2007The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), The European Commission, and the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe have come together to convene the world’s most renowned scientists, health care workers and leaders in emerging infectious diseases at the International Meeting on Emerging Disease and Surveillance (IMED) 2007 to address the threats of pandemic influenza and bioterrorism, as well as some of the most important emerging disease threats. Presentations will include new studies on MRSA, Ebola, influenza and disease transmission.

Some of the highlighted topics will include:

  • How can health professionals prevent the spread of MRSA in humans and animals?
  • Is there a tool or system that can predict flu outbreaks?
  • What are the effects of transmitting bacterial diseases from animals to humans?
  • Do masks and gloves really prevent the spread of highly contagious diseases?
  • Where is the next outbreak of Ebola expected to occur?
  • After examining models of disease surveillance, detection and reporting, what system works best?

To keep an eye on what transpires, see the IMED website.

I’m stunned to see the number of medical professionals (doctors, nurses, assistants, etc.) that are unaware of the prevalence of MRSA in the United States. When a request is made by the patient to test them for MRSA, 98% of the time the response is, why? or what makes you think you need to be tested for that? There is a gigantic failure in the Medical Community to alert ALL professionals to the need to be on alert for MRSA!!

My vet husband has MRSA (I just recently found out). When he came home after a Respite period,I kissed him on the mouth–a day or two later a sore suddenly appeared on the skin area of my upper lip. His nose runs a great deal so after the sore appearing as it did I asked for a Nasal Culture .So far everyone who should be available is on vacation, busy all week and I get some kind of evasion. He was in isolation at Respite –never even was dressed or allowed to eat at a dining room table only in bed where he stayed for the thirteen days. My children would be exposed on a visit, let alone me now handling every aspect of his health in full care.He belongs in the Veterans Hospital which no one wants to help me accomplish!!I am living in fear of what I am exposed to which I consider a criminal act to spread this contagious bacteria into families. That is TERROR!
