I think Dr. Crippen may have hit the nail right on the head when he writes of hospitals trading in their good old fashioned cleaning staff for “efficiency.” Very sad statement indeed, but the state of hospital cleanliness is even sadder these days. Oh for the days of Doris and Emily….
From NHSBlogDoc:
What exactly did we want him to do?
“Clean the Health Centre?â€
“Ah! Indeed yes, but it is not as simple as thatâ€
“Isn’t it?â€
“Oh! No! I mean, you have to see it from my point of view. There are certain things my staff cannot clean. They are not medically trained. Clinical waste. I mean, bedrolls that patients have been on. That sort of thing.â€
“Doris and Emily just cleaned everything.â€
Kevin was not having this. His company was not insured to do “everythingâ€. He gave us a list of all the things his staff could not clean. A long and comprehensive list. Broadly speaking, this seemed to be anything that might be dirty.
Do read the rest, and be nostalgic with me to the days of Doris and Emily. Maybe they will return someday….
