I apologize for slacking off posting this last week, Marshall was home on a week’s vacation, and that requires me to cut myself off the computer waaaaay before I am finished working! I hope you all have been well, and on to the news!
The Livingston County Jail has stepped up early releases of inmates to cut overcrowding due to a communicable disease that hospitalized one prisoner and resulted in the treatment of two others. “What we’re doing is a universal precaution. We’re working with the health department and they have to notify the CDC (Centers for Disease Control),” Undersheriff Michael J. Murphy said. “This particular infection is very common in correctional institutions,” he added. Meanwhile, the jail has informed surrounding police departments that only violent offenders and drunken drivers will be booked in an attempt to curb future outbreaks. The prisoner who was hospitalized was originally thought to have a spider bite. But when the infection didn’t heal, the jail’s medical personnel determined it was methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, known as MRSA. He has since been hospitalized for the infection. Officials declined to disclose other details.
