I have been shopping like a crazy maniac for a week now - and one of my stops was to Amazon’s new shoe and handbag store at endless.com. I got this cutie pair of sandals:
“Christina, what on EARTH does this have to do with MRSA?” you might ask.
Really, I bought these because I thought they were darling, and I wear things like this constantly, almost year round, here in Texas. This was the description on the sandals:
Sporty, casual, and versatile, Acorn’s Spin sandal is an inspired spring and summertime accessory. Soft tumbled nubuck uppers are lined with super soft cushioned microfiber and treated for stain- and water-resistance so you can wear these sandals in the rain without fear of discoloration. The fully contoured and molded EVA footbed, meanwhile, features an enhanced heel, arch, and forepart for long-lasting comfort. Other details include a soft-moisture-wicking microsuede coating on the footbed, an EVA midsole for lightweight performance and maximum cushioning, and a rubber outsole that delivers superior nonslip traction.
* Nubuck upper
* Rubber sole
* Uppers treated to be stain and water-resistant
* Uppers lined with cushioned microfiber
* Fully contoured molded EVA footbed with enhanced heel, arch and forepart for maximum long-lasting comfort
* EVA midsole for lightweight performance comfort and maximum cushioning
* Footbed wrapped in soft moisture-wicking microsuede
So, when I got my shoes (one short day later, thank you endless!), I read the little card that was attached to them and I was surprised when I noticed this:
Footbed lined in agION - treated microsuede to be antimicrobial and anti-fungal.
agION’s, I expect, are silver ions, which is something that lots of folks are testing in their products to prevent MRSA, especially in hospitals. Just this past week in London, silver coated pajamas went on hospital trial. Anyway, just thought you might want to know that you can take one extra antimicrobial step in these Acorn sandals. And they are comfy and cute too.

cute shoes! and anti microbial/silver? HMMM..I recall my Mother relating that “in the old days” it was common practice to cover a new born umbilical cord with a freshly boiled (and cooled) silver dollar, as a matter of fact she took the “sterile” silver dollar and belly band with her to the hospital for her last child (my youngest sister) they laughed at her uncontrollably! that was 38 years ago! those old wives tales do have a basis in fact!

Wow - long time no see, Cat! I hope you are doing very well!! And I totally agree with you about the old wives thing - funny how it takes a bazillion dollars of research to rediscover that those crazy old ladies were right all along.
Come back soon, Cat, I miss talking to you!!
