The Minnesota Vikings are the first NFL team to take advantage of new technologies in infection prevention and are using the products offered by Sport Coatings to protect their turf and their players. They join several college teams – hopefully this will become a trend!
“Health and safety is always a priority,†said Head Coach Brad Childress, Minnesota Vikings. “We wanted to start this season knowing we’ve done everything we can to keep our athlete’s on the field.â€Â
The Vikings are the first team in the NFL to protect their synthetic turf training field with TurfAide and join the Washington Redskins in treating their training facility with SportsAide.
“Our philosophy in sports medicine is to be proactive and create the safest environment possible for our athletes, which is why SportsAide and TurfAide were such an important investment for us,†said Vikings Head Athletic Trainer, Eric Sugarman. “Bacteria, fungi and mold cause a wide variety of issues for our athletes from annoying Athlete’s foot to very serious staph infections like MRSA.â€Â
The athletic training room, locker rooms, weight room and team meeting rooms of the Vikings are now protected with SportsAide’s active antimicrobial that effectively controls the growth of microorganisms. The synthetic turf field in the Vikings Field House was treated with TurfAide to complete the antimicrobial coverage.
The Washington Redskins have been using SportsAide in their training facilities, hopefully they will see Minnesota doing it, and try the TurfAid for themselves. Read more about TurfAide and SportsAide on MRSA Notes. TurfAide and SportsAide are manufactured by SportsCoatings.
