MRSA in NY Jail

February 21st, 2006 · No Comments

From the Hudson Valley News

Two inmates at the Orange County Jail in Goshen have developed the MRSA staff [sic] infection. The cases are not related, said Sheriff’s Office Captain Dennis Barry, who said the men are being treated with antibiotics.

The skin rash can be contracted through close physical contact, through touching towels, sheets, clothing, and other personal items, according to the health website charmeck.org.

The most common manifestation of this rash is an abscess or a boil.

An Orange County Health Department spokesman said both inmates are being treated by the physicians assigned to the county jail.
