MRSA in the Wilderness

October 31st, 2006 · No Comments

wilderness-medicineKudos to Dr. Paul Auerback, who addresses MRSA in his blog, Medicine for the Outdoors. His post gives general information about MRSA infections and expresses his concern about where they originate:

The situation has taken a turn for the worse, because doctors are now seeing MRSA infections that are acquired outside of the hospital. These are known as “community acquired” infections. I have been made aware of a few infections that seem to have been acquired in the outdoors. In one case, it was almost certainly acquired from a wet suit worn by a surfer.

I am so glad to see a doctor talking about MRSA - they are few and far between. I hope that we hear more from him about MRSA and antibiotic resistance in the future.
