Trio of antimicrobial coatings; TurfAideâ„¢, SportsAideâ„¢ and SportsAideâ„¢ Fabric Conditioner provides long-term protection from microbial growth on sports surfaces

Rochester Hills, Mich…SportCoatings, a division of the Coatings Specialist Group (CSG), introduces a break-through Sports Antimicrobial System (SAS) - a trio of products that combat microbial contamination and odor on sports surfaces. The ÆGIS Microbe Shield® treatment powering SAS creates a long-lasting antimicrobial layer effective against a broad spectrum of all known bacteria, mold, fungi and algae. “Athletic facilities have always combated issues of microbial growth on sports surfaces - from the famous ‘locker room smell’ caused by bacteria, to the fungus that causes ring worm and worse.” Said Art McWood, President CSG.

According to the March 5th Mercury News article “Sports Scourge” about Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in sports facilities “Public health officials say that locker rooms and fields of play have become havens for the resourceful bacterium, which can be transmitted by physical contact and the sharing of such items as sports equipment, towels, razors and bars of soap.” “The Sports Antimicrobial System is like an airbag for the athletic industry,” said McWood. “It’s a proactive way for athletic directors, trainers and parents to regain peace-of-mind, knowing their facility is continually protected from microbial contamination with the best technology available.”

SAS is comprised of three products: TurfAide, SportsAide and SportsAide Fabric Conditioner that treat a wide array of sports surfaces. TurfAide provides antimicrobial protection to synthetic turf systems from the infill particles of sand or rubber, to the fibers of synthetic grass. SportsAide imparts a durable, antimicrobial shield to a wide range of sports surfaces including locker rooms, whirlpools, gym mats and exercise equipment. SportsAide Fabric Conditioner provides antimicrobial protection, stain releasers and odor control to sports laundry like towels and uniforms for more than 60 washes. The ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology powering the system imparts an invisible, odorless layer of antimicrobial protection that will not leach any chemicals or heavy metals into the environment and will not rub off onto a player’s skin. Registered with the EPA, the ÆGIS Microbe Shield has been safely used in consumer goods ranging from shoes to diapers and in medical applications from clean rooms to surgical dressings for more than 30 years.

“What makes the ÆGIS Microbe Shield unique is that it becomes a durable part of the treated surface and functions through a physical mode-of-action versus the chemical poisoning associated with traditional antimicrobials,” said Curtis White, Chairman and CEO of ÆGIS. “This physical mode-of-action prevents microbes from adapting to the shield so there is no ability for ‘super bugs’ to develop resistance.” Extensive warranties and service agreements are available on SAS applications to ensure the active antimicrobial layer remains intact. “The SAS technology is just the beginning of the many exciting, high-tech paints, coatings and treatments designed specifically for synthetic sports surfaces on the horizon from SportCoatings,” said Craig Andrews, CEO CSG. A division of the Coatings Specialist Group (CSG), SportCoatings is the world leader in sports coatings offering a wide array of products that enhance, restore and maintain synthetic sports surfaces.
