Nosocomial Infection in Central Florida?

March 14th, 2007 · 8 Comments

If you are in central Florida and are the victim of a nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infection (doesn’t have to necessarily be MRSA), someone is looking for a spokesperson. If you will email me at christina@b5media.com, or leave a comment if you are interested, I will get you in touch with the right person.

My 84 year old mother contracted MRSA in a Vero Beach, Fl rehab center. She is undergoing treatment with vancomycin. Rehab center said she gave it to herself. My sister (a nurse) and I were witness to sloppy and unsanitary procedures.

I found out my Aunt died last night at MRMC here in Ocala. She had bed sores and contracted MRSA through those. She was already weak. She was 64, and perfectly healthy before she fell and broke her hip a month ago. Why is this infection so common in Ocala?

MRSA has been keep quiet for years, now that it is an epidemic maybe the health care system will finally have to account for their lack of sanitary procedures. I am currently seeking to find an attorney whois willing take on my Mom’s case. If anyone knows of one in the Vero Beach area, please let me know.

Husband, 5 year old daughter and me all had the “spider” bite sores. Husband treated at local Lake County hospital, Dr comfirmed it was a
spider bite. Daughter ended up in hospital 2 months later, claiming she had hepatitis induced from mono, she continued to be sick every 3-4 weeks with URI. Finally one year after the first “spider” bites appeared in 8/2005 husband had another, week later so did my daughter. I tood her to her a new doctor, she said it was caused from a staph infection and we needed to do a culture of her nose and throat to see if it had gotten in her sinuses. The throat culture came back with heavy MRSA growth. It took 5 months of reculturing and 3 different antibiotics (even though the resistance test showed the 1st two drugs as good choices). We have been clean of MRSA for 5 months. However I disagree with the local doctors that if you don’t have a skin sore you are not sick with MRSA. They continue to claim that it does not cause URI, I strongly disagree. Even the local specialist disagree on MRSA. Over the past year my brother, my father, sister and her 3 children have all been treated. Our doctors need to be educated. I contacted the CDC begging for help, they refered me to the Florida Health administrator, he was just as clueless as the local doctors. Our local heath department didn’t care. When ever my daughter is sick I now insist on having cultures before prescribing an RX to see if it is bacterial or viral.

    Terri,
We have National Space Foundation certified technology backed by Kansas State University studies showing our ActivePure technology is VERY effective in controlling MRSA.
