The PVL (Panton-Valentine Leukocidin) producing strain of MRSA that is much more common here in the United States has reared its ugly head in the UK Hospitals now, having killed 2 people. In a statement from the Health Protection Agency (HPA), they said:
“PVL-producing strains of MRSA have been seen in the UK before - however, the small numbers of cases reported have usually been in the community rather than a hospital setting.
“This outbreak is the first time transmission and deaths due to this strain are known to have occurred in a healthcare setting in England and Wales.” Source
The UK hasn’t seen these scary strains of MRSA in the communities like we have here - the strain that hits young, healthy athletes in our communities. They have had a few outbreaks in the communities, but this one is in healthcare settings. This is scary news for the UK, for sure.

This is sensationalist drivel. Do you think it’s grown-up to talk about ’scary’ microbes?

I think you would have found it scary as hell too if your spouse had nearly died from it - and mine did nearly die from it - so yes, I think it is quite scary. Read his story at http://www.mrsaresources.com/marshallsstory.pdf
Sorry you disagree, and I hope you never have to deal with it in your life. But thanks for the comment, Nick.
