Strengthening our immune systems

October 14th, 2005 · No Comments

Prevention is so much better than cure. This is what Tony Fields writes in his incredible booklet, “MRSA - A Patient’s Defence!” But once we’ve had MRSA, we must deal with it the best way we are able. I signed up for Daily tips at www.drweil.com some time ago. Today, I got an e-mail listing foods that help boost our immune systems. Last week, I read a health tip about treating skin infections with tea tree oil http://www.drweil.com/u/Article/A169/ Sometimes the best way to get better is to take better care of ourselves. I know it’s so much easier to say than it is to do. We all have our busy lives and we go from one thing to another. I always manage to put off exercise because I “don’t have time” I clean the house first, do the laundry, go on the computer, return e-mails, follow up on the Hands of Hope awareness campaigns, care for my two wonderful girls, and what time is left to take care of me? Not much. But now that flu season is upon us and MRSA is an epidemic in our country, isn’t it time to reevaluate our priorities? When my girls were sick, I stopped working for the first time in many, many years. Nothing was more important to me than the prayer that they would be returned to good health. I dropped everything. But now that they are healthy again (thank God), here I am, back to my old habits of pushing myself. I want to commit myself to learning more about the immune system and how to help make my family stronger. I want to learn how to answer questions people ask about how to prevent recurrences of infections or what can be done if one antibiotic after another fails. I know Emily was getting weaker and weaker every time her little body fought off the infection. I want to learn the best things I can do to help her and Jeanne stay well. Perhaps we can do an info exchange or reading club?
