A study has been done by testing samples from surfaces in Canadian hospitals, and the results were quite different from what was expected:
The study examined more than 4,000 samples from 19 intensive care units in Canadian hospitals. It found that 20 to 50 percent of staphylococcus aureus bacteria, a major cause of wound and skin infections contracted in hospitals, was resistant to the powerful antibiotic methicillin. This is up from previous estimates of 5 to 15 percent.
I have spoken with many people in Canada that have MRSA, and I also have had the inkling that the doctors there are more prepared to deal with it than the majority of those in the U.S. I am sorry to see that the numbers are so much higher than expected, but hope that they are prepared to effectively deal with it.
