Testing Patients for MRSA

October 14th, 2006 · No Comments

CropperCapture[7]When reading this editorial at the Charleston Daily Mail, regarding testing patients for MRSA as they enter the hospital, I really just wonder why the hospitals would do that before they would consider cleaning themselves up. There isn’t much point in knowing if a patient has it when he comes in to the hospital, if he is coming in to an MRSA infested place anyway. The only purpose that serves, in my opinion of course, is giving the hospitals yet another out when it comes to lawsuits.

And then, what if an incoming patient has MRSA – are they going to be treated like a leper? Turned away from needed healthcare? This is my action plan – clean up your hospital so the MRSA is GONE. Then track each and every bit of MRSA that is there in patients, keep them quarantined, and then clean up very well after them. Assume some responsibility.
