WOAI in San Antonio would like the public to be aware that all Texas Medical Centers are seeing increased rates of Staphylococcal Infections, including the antibiotic-resistant MRSA. Remember that these infections are often confused with spider bites and and will manifest themselves as a large abscess with a dark wound in the center. Don’t put off wounds like this, be sure you get to a doctor. Good advice for the residents of any state.

Staphylococcal Infections is very hazardous to our health. We should visit our health consultant as soon as it is detected.

To Whom It May Concern
I am a student studying at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and am doing a power point talk on Dietary fibre. Please could I use the image of Staphylococcal Infections found at the following web address http://www.mrsanotes.com/texas-medical-clinics-seeing-increased-rates-of-staphylococcal-infections/
to illustrate the talk. The image is of Staphylococcal Infections on a persons neck.
Thank you for considering this matter.

Ihave never seen any thing like this before especially around my area. It’s growing so fast in our schools. So I was looking for what it really looks like just incase a student that is complanning about a rash or a bite I know that it might be more than that. I guess the best advice i could give is to stay clean and really have no contact with a person that you might think has contracted the virus.

Oh my goodness this picture is so nasty! I cannot believe that people can be dirty that is so gross!
Christina Jones // Oct 19, 2007 at 8:34 am
It has nothing to do with “dirty” Cady. It has much more to do with a weakened immune system and bacteria that live on everyones skin, that have evolved to be so much more dangerous than they used to be. Stay healthy and be aware, that is the point of all of this.

Now I’m terrified….I’ve had “something” going on with my body for a long time now. It started with sores on my legs that took FOREVER to heal…and now, my legs are full of darkened areas (scars). Then it traveled up my thighs, to my butt, and now I believe it’s going to my neck/face.
I see the doctor every month, cuz I also have RSD (which is a chronic pain condition) and have showed them these sores. They’re stumped.
When I saw this picture, it scared the heck out of me. This is what my sores look like! They break open, and ooze, or bleed, and I just keep getting them!
Is it possible? My son’s friend, 16 years old, just died last Sunday and they said it was “either bronchitis or pneumonia.” They did do an autopsy, and the news this am said a “possible infection” turned up in my area. My son was home from school on Monday cuz he was feeling achy, and had chills. He has allergies really bad, so his throat gets sore from the draining.
I’m so scared……

Lisa - get your doctor to culture your wounds - I can’t believe they haven’t done this yet. Find another doc who will take proper care of you.

Cady, it has NOTHING at all to do with being “Dirty”. Are you one of those people that use the little hand sanitizers constantly, or perhaps you take antibiotics like they’re vitamins? Do you know why this MRSA Staph infection is so dangerous? Because of people being “Too Clean”. People that use hand sanitizers religiously, or people that ingest a lot of antibiotics are more likely to catch this. Staph infections like clean places, because unlike other strains of bacteria, a staph infection can survive because it’s been around as long as antibiotics have been, and it’s just been evolving alongside the medicines.

Ethan, I know you’re right about the antibiotics and antibacterial hand sanitizers AND this person not being “dirty” for contracting staph. HOWEVER, it is important to remember that MRSA is being spread in schools frequently through sharing of gym equipment and in locker rooms, etc. It is important to be sanitary about this type of thing.

Thanks for sharing that Ethan. I am a germophobe and will cut down on my antibacterial regime.

Neil the deal // May 13, 2008 at 2:59 pm
My two year old son had an operation on a hernia a couple of weeks. I was more scared of him catching MRSA than the operation itself

What’s really scary is the grammer in some of theses letters!! Also it’s better to be clean than dirty. Cleanliness prevents dermatitis.

If we take care to keep our new homes clean, hospitals should play their part buy keeping their property clean.

Health in the care industry is extremely important. Staff at Hospitals can take courses or training in order to stop mrsa
