I think this is a really interesting story - The Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust in the UK has apparently been awarded as a Top 40 hospital for their outstanding quality in 2006.
Well, Doug Knight would like to give you the proverbial “rest of the story.” He says:
It makes my blood boil that they only did something to tackle MRSA after what I went through – and now they are claiming credit for it themselves. They only implemented various things after the complaints I made. Even my surgeon was amazed at my treatment, and the MRSA made my recovery so much worse. I had to have a chunk taken out of my ankle to get rid of the MRSA, and could have lost my leg. But some of the things you can do to tackle MRSA are so unbelievably simple.
Mr. Knight contracted MRSA from Queen Alexandra hospital while having surgery and treatment for a shattered ankle. He was horrified at the conditions in the hospital, and took his case to the NHS. [Read his whole story.]
They claim to be cleaning things up, but I sure can’t find where they have made improvements. It looks to me like they failed in the MRSA department still. Interesting - their numbers must have been unbelievably bad before.
