The lifesaving antibiotic for MRSA, Vancomycin, has been linked to thrombocytopenia, a disorder that affects the platelet numbers in the blood, and therefore the blood’s ability to form clots and stop bleeding, according to a new study in the New England Journal of Medicine.
What does this mean for you? This is yet another important bit of knowledge to have when you or a loved one is going through MRSA therapy, and taking Vancomycin. I can’t tell you how many times through the course of my husband’s treatment I had to bring up answers of my own to the doctors when Marshall was having one sort of trouble or another. Knowledge is power. And every MRSA patient needs a good advocate.
